Boulard Grand Solage blends calvados varieties aged for 3–5 years. This “cuvée” is then matured further in oak barrels, allowing the flavours to come together. It takes a full 18 kilos of apples to make a single bottle, and as many as around 100 different apple varieties can be found in the amber-coloured spirit. Calvados Boulard is made using a highly artisanal and relatively slow method, double-distilled over an open flame in so-called copper “pot stills”.
